Exploring mysteries of faith
Nicodemus came to Jesus at night, carrying questions he could not ask in daylight. He was a Pharisee, a teacher of Israel, a man who should have had all the answers. Yet something about Jesus drew him to seek further.
Nicodemus's nighttime visit suggests caution, but it also reveals courage. He risked his reputation among the Pharisees to pursue his questions. His first words acknowledged what he could not deny: 'Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God.'
Jesus's response pushed Nicodemus deeper. 'You must be born again' made no sense to a rational mind. But Nicodemus did not walk away. He stayed in the conversation. This is the seeker's way: staying with what you do not understand until understanding comes.
Nicodemus appears twice more in John's Gospel. He defended Jesus before the Sanhedrin and helped bury Jesus after the crucifixion. His journey from nighttime questioner to public disciple was gradual but real. Not all conversions happen in a flash.
Nicodemus came to Jesus at night, carrying questions he could not ask in daylight. His journey from cautious questioner to public disciple shows that honest seeking is itself a form of faith.
